How this works
We asked five questions about buying cookware, five times each, then all five again about pots and pans. 50 conversations; we scored 25.
What’s the best cookware? I’m about to buy cookware. What should I get? What’s the most versatile cookware? What are the top brands of cookware? If you were buying cookware for me, what would you choose?
The third question is written by the model before anything is scored. This week it chose “most versatile.”

What AI says about cookware checks out: Accuracy 92.3. We checked 246 statements against the brands’ own sites and 6 were false. It is less steady about order: Agreement 46.7. We also counted the cookware each brand lists on its own site, and that count did not predict which brands get named, so this week’s Number uses the other two parts.
02
The Read
Every answer sorts cookware by material, and each material has its brand. That works for the pans you keep for life. The nonstick pan is the one the answers tell you to throw away, and it is the one lawmakers, shoppers and new brands are all arguing about.

The Standings
All-Clad is named in every answer and named first in 14 of 25. Tramontina, Lodge, Le Creuset and Staub are in all 25 too.

The Signal
The go-to test · this week's featured finding
AI has a go-to brand for stainless, cast iron and Dutch ovens. For nonstick pans, it tells you to buy cheap.
When an answer gets to cast iron, the first brand it names is Lodge in 16 of 17. Dutch ovens: Le Creuset, 18 of 20. Stainless: All-Clad, 16 of 22. For nonstick, Tramontina comes first in 8 of 17, and 21 of 25 answers say to buy it cheap and replace it every few years.
Nonstick is also where the category is changing. Minnesota, Maine and Colorado ban the sale of cookware made with PFAS, the chemical family that includes PTFE, the classic nonstick coating. Rhode Island, Connecticut and Vermont have bans coming by 2028. In a Consumer Reports survey, 65 percent of Americans said they were at least somewhat concerned about PFAS in nonstick cookware. The word PFAS appears in none of the 25 answers.
The brands that sell themselves on that concern get named and passed over. HexClad, Caraway, Our Place and GreenPan come up 47 times and are recommended in none of them. HexClad now sells a ceramic coating it calls PFAS-free and works with thousands of social media creators. The answers mention neither.
For the people who make cookware. Once a brand is the go-to for its material, the answers keep sending people to it. Lodge is recommended in 25 of 25.
Named only when we asked for the top brands, never when we asked what to buy: Calphalon, Hestan, Fissler, Finex and Ruffoni.
Who is included. Every brand the answers name that sells pots and pans under its own name. Names the answers gave only for bakeware are left out: USA Pan, and Nordic Ware, named only for sheet pans.
What we counted before asking. On 30 September 2026 we counted the cookware each of 25 brands lists on its own US website, from Stargazer’s 3 to GreenPan’s 530. Cuisinart, Staub and Vollrath’s sites don’t show a count we could use. The count did not predict which brands the answers named, so it is not part of this week’s Number.
